What to do if a scan does not work

Troubleshooting

Type the code instead, and what each message on the scanner is actually telling you.

Do not hold the queue up over a camera. There is always a way through.

First, type the code

Every card shows a code in the form LP-XXXXX-XXXXX. Open Enter code manually under the camera, type it in, and choose Look up. That works with no camera at all, on any device. The codes never contain the letters O, I or L, or the digits zero or one, so a character you cannot read is one of the others.

The camera itself

  • Ask the customer to turn their screen brightness up. A dim screen behind glass is the usual culprit.
  • Hold steady about a hand span away, and let it focus.
  • If you were never asked for camera permission, or you refused it, allow it in your browser settings for this site and reload.
  • Not every browser can scan. If yours says so, use the code box or try Chrome.

What the messages mean

  • Card not found: the code was misread, or that card belongs to a different business. Type it in and check character by character.
  • The Loyalty Program is disabled: someone has paused that Program. An Administrator can turn it back on from the Program Overview.
  • Signed out: your session has expired. Sign in again and carry on.
  • Account limited: a payment could not be taken, so the account needs attention under Account, then Billing.
  • Free plan limit reached: the Free plan has more customers than it includes and its extra week has run out. Scanning, stamps and rewards wait until an Administrator upgrades to Pro. See Free plan notices in the LoyalPack App.
  • Too many lookups: wait a few seconds and try again.
  • Network problem: check the connection. If it happened while adding a stamp, scan the card again to see whether it went through, and add it if not.

A refusal never half-happens. If a stamp did not confirm, it was not recorded, so scanning again to check costs the customer nothing.

Still stuck?

If none of this covers it, send us a message and a person will reply. Tell us what you were doing when it went wrong, and we can usually sort it in one message.

So we can reply. We use it for nothing else.

Optional. Handy if it is quicker to talk it through.

A few words, such as: stamps not showing on a card.

What you were doing, what you expected, and what happened instead.
